An Experienced Fighter Who Delivers for Albuquerque

Tim’s drive for public service is rooted in his willingness to challenge the status quo and his track record of making real impact. Born and raised in Albuquerque, his leadership is centered around the “One Albuquerque” unity vision, a clarion call honoring the city’s diverse heritage and championing residents from all walks of life. First elected to office at the age of 29 in 2008, He strives to approach every day first as listener, then as a problem solver with a bias toward action. From his time as a State Senator representing the International District to serving as Senate Majority Whip, then as New Mexico State Auditor, and now as Mayor, Tim has tackled some of Albuquerque’s biggest challenges head-on.

Fighting for Albuquerque’s Future

Under Tim’s visionary leadership, Albuquerque has made historic progress across key issues:

  • Redefining Emergency Response – Created the first-of-its-kind Community Safety Department, sending trained professionals to handle mental health, substance use, and homelessness-related 911 calls, freeing up police to focus on crime.

  • Addressing Homelessness & Mental Health – Launched the Gateway Center, which helps 1,000 people per day and represents the largest state investment in services for the unhoused, addiction recovery, and mental health support.

  • Investing in Neighborhoods – Secured over $200 million for new parks, libraries, affordable housing, splash pads, streetlights, road repairs, and community centers—especially in underserved areas.

  • Fighting for Survivors – Cleared the city’s rape kit backlog, honoring survivors and ensuring justice.

  • Modernizing the Economy – Brought thousands of new jobs to Albuquerque by securing investments from Netflix, NBC Universal, and Amazon.

  • Leading on Climate Action – Pushed Albuquerque into the top 5 solar cities nationwide and set the city on track to be 100% renewable by 2025.

  • Building for the Next Generation – Led major projects like the Nuevo Atrisco town center, the revitalization of the Railyards, and the Rail Trail Pedestrian Parkway, reconnecting Downtown and Old Town.

  • Expanding Youth Programs – Increased before- and after-school programs to serve 30,000+ kids annually.

  • Leading with Courage – Steered Albuquerque through the COVID-19 pandemic and a summer of racial reckoning with empathy and conviction.
